After checking into our hotel we went to Epic Life Church to meet pastor, Keith Carpenter and his staff. Shelly and Casey who have been here working with Keith for 3 years took us on a walking tour. Within only a few blocks of the church, interspersed among nail salons, pet stores and golf shops are all types of adult entertainment.
Shelly shared that last year Hyde Park Baptist Church came and showed them how to host a block party. It was a success and they got about 300 businesses to participate. This summer they repeated the block party and had about 600 businesses participate.
In the middle of the block, where a crack house burned down, Epic Life Church is building a city garden as a place of sanctuary for the neighborhood.
Our next stop was Sojourner Place and was a wonder blessing. The women there were lovely hostesses and cooked a delicious meal for us with peanut butter cookies for dessert! We enjoyed visiting with the women and after dinner "sang for out supper" with a 45 minute concert and sharing our faith.
We return to Sojourner Place tomorrow morning to minister from 9:00 a.m. to noon. We can't wait! Tomorrow we will take take gift bags of personal toiletries and personal, handwritten notes to the ladies.
Tonight we connected with the ladies. The truth was shared and the Spirit of God visited us. Praise God!!
